Economic Development

The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation (USUF) promotes Ukraine’s business and economic opportunities by fostering and facilitating communication between Ukrainian and American corporate, governmental, educational and non-profit entities.

The Foundation supports Ukraine’s economic development by participating in trade shows and conferences focusing on sectors like biotechnology and travel and by distributing business information through its website, newsletter and social media like LinkedIn. USUF also provides advisory assistance to entrepreneurs representing small and medium-size companies.

The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation’s economic development activities include the following:

Biotechnology Initiative
The goal of USUF Biotechnology Initiative is to highlight the biotech capabilities of Ukraine, to establish strong scientific links between the U.S. and Ukraine, to help identify leading scientists and entrepreneurs in Ukraine’s biotech sector, and to facilitate business development in the biotech sector between the U.S. and Ukraine. Particular effort is being placed on identifying and assisting promising start-ups. This project has been made possible through the support of Ms. Irene K. Joseph, co-founder of the biotechnology company Cygnus Technologies.

Business Community Club of Ukraine

In June of 2016 the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation signed a Memorandum on Cooperation with the Business Community Club (BCC), a small-business association headquartered in Lviv and with an ever-growing number of branches in other cities throughout Ukraine, including Kyiv, Kharkiv and Ivano-Frankivsk.  USUF and BCC are collaborating with the goal of sharing information and building bridges between Ukrainian and American entrepreneurs.

Community Development Funds
The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation administers the Zapytiv Community Development Fund (established by the Boyko Family) and the Petrach Community Development Fund for Stariy Dobrotvir. Both communities are in Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine.

Travel to Ukraine
The Foundation promotes Ukraine as a travel destination through its popular Travel to Ukraine website and Facebook page. The Foundation also sponsors a Ukraine Booth at the annual New York Times Travel Show, which draws about 30,000 visitors and industry professionals. Ukraine’s popularity as a tourist destination continues to grow, which has important implications for the country’s further economic development.
